Read Time:4 Minute, 12 Second

Ewu! Nina bakwa Bosman, patrons, the arts and creative community…,

Together we mourn, moan, be-moan, and our souls bleed because one of our own, a monumental voice of song, shall sing no more new songs. Instead, the BG force that also sang the Bee Gees tune, Too Much Heaven, left the devoted behind to sing a requiem with Ringo Madlingozi.., “Uhambile, uhambilehe, uhambile, usishiyile.” Awu, bakithi…😭😭😭. Yet still, shall we keep in our memories…, Yes, celebrate, cherish and hold close the eloquent voice of the Mofolo born -in Soweto- Gloria Bosman calling our attention to AmaQwati.

Jongan’ Amaqwati, Jongani AmamaQwati hay’ ubuhle bawo. Jongan’ AmaQwati Jongan’ AmaQwati Hay’ isithunzi sawo.

Baba nawe mama wami – bana ba thare…, AmaQwati is a song bringing attention to the beauty and dignity of every African clan under the sun. Thus, replace amaQwathi with any clan name and sing your lungs out with pride as umuntu waKwaNtu.

Oh! Yes, the track AmaQwati comes from a debut album titled Tranquillity by the departed fifty-year-old Gloria Bosman. Back at only twenty-seven, Bosman unleashed a collection of nine tranquil and soul-centering songs. Instantly claiming a place for herself in the list of those contributing to a deep, rich, and timeless global music heritage. The album got released on the eve of heritage month of 1999. In Tranquility, the finger-licking good pianist Paul Hanmer handles the production and strings arrangement and caresses the ebony and ivories. Ah! It is to the delight of an appreciator.

Yes! Take a detour to the song prayer Sombawo – be enchanted and spell-bind. Be soothed by Boikarabello’s Lullaby. It is a dedication Bosman sang to her daughter, who later gave the departed musician the blessing of grandmotherhood. Furthermore…, As we celebrate Bosman through her song Remembering Thami Mnyele, the visual artist…, Please flow with the gently swinging strings, floating like the butterfly voice of Bosman, lulling to faraway lands piano playing of Hanmmer as we much, with our hearts to the soft percussive thumping of Rob Watson.

Indeed indlovukazi yakwa Bosman iyibekile induku ebandla lomculo namasiko ezwe. Kwamambala, in Tranquility, Bosman answers any doubts about her contribution to the vast and rich African, South African and world music heritage. The success of Tranquility became a door opener for young female soloists with a desire to perform adult African contemporary music. Such was at a time in the 1990s when Kwaito was a sound of choice for many young people.  In an interview with The Writer…, For a cultural magazine MusikMag, Bosman said:

“Tranquility is a bit crazy because you cannot even place the type of music in the album. I touched many musical worlds I (mean)…, I studied Opera, and sang rock, gospel…, you cannot ignore all these influences.”

APOLOGIES OF NXESE IF SIYAY’ BAXA

But honestly…, Bosman might have embraced her SAMRO (South African Music Organization) board member role. However, there can be little doubt that she would have preferably spent more of her time on stage performing and some in the studio putting down the music her spirit had descended to this earth to cast wide. But alas, countless artists in sour Msawawa…,

Countless get pressured by economic needs to take office or administration jobs to survive because arts and cretive gigs are scarce. And besides, some in administrators in the arts are just cock-ups nje. Thus, as for the pilferers of souls and body of arts and the creative sector…, Spare the nation with your crocodile tears and matshidiso of font-kong condolences. You know yourselves, you dirty connivers to aloota the soul of genuine artists and creatives in this Afrika Fatshe la badimo that great JG ntate Gwangwa sang. Batshele People’s poet…, Sies! Niyasinyanyisa!

Nxese Bosman for spitting venom in this, your tribute. The thing is…, It would be a dereliction of duty not to note you may not have lived in much glory as an artist. Oh! Dear Gloria. Because of the environment – in this facade of a constitutional democratic South Africa…, Yeah! The conditions may not have been conducive for your super creative and artistic spirit to constantly do a Fly Away And Not Despair eyabhalwa ngu Selaelo Selota yaculwa ngu Judith Sephuma in a Cry A smile And A Dance.

Therefore, Timeless one, shall we begin to wrap this eulogy to you with another of your masterpieces of a song, Folded Wings.  – “When the time has come for you to fold your wings cause there are too many scars…,”

Yet with all these wounds upon the face of music, arts and South African artists, patrons, and sympathises, we find comfor in the Soul Brothers sing to us…, Thula Musa Ukukhala yeah-yeah, sula izinyembezi… For Nature Dances, whenever we press the play button…, And then the finitely blossoming Bosman sings…,
